Professional History

Dr. Leslie graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 1993. In addition to his clinical studies, he was of only two students in the history of the program to be awarded the competitive Holderness Student Research Fellowship. Following graduation from UNC, he completed his residency, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology, at Boston Children’s Hospital. Following fellowship, he was a clinical attending in Pediatric Rheumatology at Boston Children’s.

Additionally, Dr. Leslie was an independent investigator in the basic biology of T cells and non-classical lipid antigen presentation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for eight years. In 2008, he was the co-founder, and served as Clinical Director, of the Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Center (PPRC) at Boston Children's, an intensive day program for children with complex pain syndromes. In 2010, he left the PPRC and began his current position as a full-time hospitalist at Franciscan Children’s Hospital, caring for children with complex medical issues. In addition to his duties as an attending on the Franciscan Children’s medical units, he serves as the coordinator of the hospital’s Physician "Moonlighter" Team.

My overall philosophy exactly mirrors our Franciscan motto, ‘So Every Kid Can!”. Having the privilege of serving the Franciscan community has helped me to realize even more that it’s important to focus on what a kid CAN do, not what they can’t. The courageous children, and their families, that I feel so blessed to care for to the best of my abilities, are truly my heroes. They, and their families, face significant challenges every day and I feel so fortunate to work with folks at FCH every day who really care about helping these children in any way possible. No matter what one’s position, every person I have met at FCH, shares the same commitment to helping our sick kids. I feel so proud to be a part of the wonderful Franciscan community and can’t imagine ever working anywhere else!
