Dr. Mason has been in the field of education for 40 years supporting children and adults from infancy through late adulthood with a variety of needs across residential, public, private and hospital settings. Dr. Mason received her Ph.D., CAES and master’s from Boston College focusing on augmentative and alternative communication and literacy, students with visual loss and blindness and students with deafblindness. Her bachelor’s degree in music and rehabilitation counseling was received from Emmanual College.
Prior to coming to Franciscan’s, Dr. Mason was the Director of Students Services at the South Shore Educational Collaborative for over 20 years supporting students with extensive support needs, social-emotional and mental health-based disabilities and Autism. She is an assistant teaching professor at Northeastern University (17+ years) and an adjunct faculty at Boston College (10 + years), Stonehill College (5+ years), Lesley University (18+ years) and Bridgewater State University (22+ years). Course topics include Autism, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (for educators); Inclusion, Equity & Diversity; Special Education Assessment; Assistive Technology and Early Literacy.
Dr. Mason holds professional licenses in the areas of Intensive Special Needs, Special Education Administrator, Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent and holds an Autism and Sheltered English Immersion Administrator Endorsements.
