Professional History

Dr. Calligas has specialized in Inpatient Child Psychiatry, and has treated children and adolescents with a wide range of disorders in such settings.

I have always been interested in understanding mental illness and the effects it has on the individual and family. I enjoy being in an academic setting that enhances opportunities to learn and to teach. I have chosen to work in inpatient settings treating children with severe, complex conditions. This requires an eclectic and multidisciplinary approach. My foundation is in a psychodynamic understanding of the person, and I utilize a range of treatments, including cognitive/behavioral, pharmacological, family, milieu and liaison with school.
